Definitions: Industrial Production Measures gross output of industry and service sectors (final demand plus intermediate sales). Broadest measure of output growth available. A better measure than value-added of industry of performance. Value-added may vary as a result of employment, wage, and profits of industries. Gross output reflects, instead, sales or revenues. Classification of sectors is by ISIC Revision 2 groups. Where ISIC Revision 3 data is available it is reclassified and grouped into ISIC Revision 2 groups to insure historic consistency and cross-country consistency. All data is presented in Nominal US $s and 1995 US $s. Employment Employment reflects total number of employees (business survey data) by industry group. Employment data comes from UNIDO and ILO sources. ILO 1 digit ISIC estimates are used to scale more detailed UNIDO data. Service sector employment reflects a combination of US factors adjusted by ILO employment by sector totals. Employment is measured by occupational categories. International Trade Trade flows are based on US, Eurostat, UN and other national source data collected and organized by ISIC categories augmented with additional commodity subcategories. Data reflects bilateral flows between 92 countries and regions (including 6 US regions) and 92 countries and regions. International Trade is flows are available in terms of Nominal, 1995 US $s, and weight (by mode of transportation -- air freight and maritime freight trade). World Regions: International trade to and from each country with the world and six major world regions. Based on 92 x 92 country and regional breakdown of global trade.
